Koh Samui, located in the tranquil Gulf of Siam off the east coast of Thailand, is the country's third largest island. Samui has everything, enabling you to have your holiday anyway you like it - kicked back and relaxed or active and fast paced!
Regarded by many as a "tropical paradise", Samui is renowned for its beautiful white sand beaches, clean, clear warm water, lush tropical gardens and gentle ocean breezes, as well as its colourful fishing villages and green, hilly terrain in the center of the island.
More well known beaches include Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut, Big Buddha, Choeng Mon, Hua Thanon and Maenam. However, in our opinion, one of the great pleasures of Samui is to explore some of the smaller, virtually uninhabited beaches. This can be done by simply taking one of the small tracks that leads off the main ring road around the island. There are many surprises still to be disovered.
Samui is also a great place for excursions to nearby islands, with Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and Koh Nang Yuan being among the most beautiful. It is also close to the stunning scenery of Anthong National Marine Park
There is an abundance of restaurants on Samui, offering every type of cuisine ¡V particularly fresh seafood. We like to eat at the less showy beach restaurants that offer great food and a relaxed atmosphere. The quaint Fisherman's Village is just 10 minutes' drive from Baan Ling Noi offering a wide choice of cuisines, and there are many restaurants dotted along the coast at Bophut and Chaweng. For those looking for something more upmarket, many of the hotels and resorts also have great places to dine.
The weather on Samui is almost always beautiful. Blue sky days and a nice ocean breeze are the norm. For the purists, late December to the end of March is the ideal tropical island weather experience. However, Samui is regarded pretty much as a year-round destination and if it gets too hot from April to September, either the pool or the sea is never far away. Rainy season tends to be from mid-October to early December.
Getting to Samui is easy ¡V it's just 2.5 hours direct flight from Hong Kong FIVE times per week and a short 80 minute flight from Bangkok.
There are also daily direct flights from Singapore. |
